If flying makes you nervous, you might want to avoid booking a ticket on this brand-new plane concept. The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), based in the U.K., has developed a concept to replace the traditional, porthole-like windows on plane fuselages with flexible HD panels that can display panoramas of the sky as the plane flies.

Braille has been an effective tool to help those who are blind read; however, it’s understandably difficult when they’re tasked with reading something that isn’t converted to that format. Fortunately for those with impaired vision, engineers have developed this wonderful machine that will hopefully change the way they experience the world around them. Introducing The FingerReader:

A shiny new tram is set to make its debut in Russia and it looks like it was designed by Bruce Wayne… or maybe Spock… Spock Wayne? Actually, it’s the work of the train and tram makers at Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) who unveiled this as the next generation Russia One tram. Along with all the Dark Knight and space-age-y specs, the new model ditches typical aerodynamic design for one that offers the driver a larger scope to see potential accidents waiting to happen.

Finding thoughtful, meaningful gifts for techie people can be pretty tough. While always appreciated on the receiving end, there’s something cold about handing someone a box full of gadgets. That’s why what Redditor pinky_chi just made for his girlfriend is so clever.

Because he has a background in bio-physics, this smart guy managed to make his favorite girl a totally customized digital clock and iPhone dock using a few simple components.

1. To start, he found a thin piece of wood and made a template for the clock face on some blank paper. After the template was lined up, he dril Continue reading By Drilling A Few Holes In Some Wood, He Made His Girlfriend The Coolest Gift

Technology is pretty simple. You press a button or flip a switch, and something happens — you call your friend, you turn on a light, or you start your computer. It’s all very direct.

Right?

Not in this wonderfully bizarre (and slightly unsettling) short film by Terri Timely and Park Pictures. It shows a world in which the things we do have unexpected, but ultimately interconnected, outcomes. Take a few minutes to watch it. We bet that you’ll hesitate the next time you have to turn on a light.

Being wheelchair-bound is a huge burden for people who have physical limitations and disabilities. The sad truth is that not many places accommodate people in wheelchairs, and being bound to a chair keeps people from living their lives to the fullest. Traditional wheelchairs are cumbersome, and they can put a huge strain on people who have to use them every day.

But this new invention — called the Ogo Wheelchair — combines the technology and the easy-to-use nature of Segways with traditional wheelchair design. It provides users with hands-free operation and two all-terrain wheels, which will allow them to experience everything that life has to offer.

Despite looking dorky, Virtual-Reality headsets are becoming more popular by the minute, with Samsung offering a free set with the new Galaxy S7, and Playstation launching nearly 50 games that are compatible with Virtual-Reality equipment. This just begs one question: is the technology really all it’s cracked up to be?

According to one extremely British father, yes and no. When his son let him try on a V-R headset, he was very vocal (and explicit) about the whole thing. Watch as his musings on the gadget go from good, to bad, to awful.

We’ll All Be Getting An Extra Second in 2015

Come June 30, there will be an extra second in the day, making the hour before midnight 3,601 seconds long.

Like leap years, leap seconds occur to bring our timing devices in line with nature. We have leap years because it doesn’t take the Earth exactly 365 days to orbit the sun. It would be handy if our spin and orbit were nicely aligned, but the world is not built around us. Ancient instruments provided an estimate of 365.25 days to the year, which made for a leap year every four years. The realization that Continue reading We’ll All Be Getting An Extra Second in 2015
