A team of neuroscientists at the University of California (UC), Berkeley have made a major advancement in our understanding of the spoken word by actually mapping out how the brain organizes how we apply meaning to language. Publishing their results in the journal Nature, they revea Continue reading 3D “Semantic Atlas” Of The Brain Reveals How We All Give Meaning To Words

Astronomers Have Mapped Our Adolescent Universe in 3D

Using a technique similar to medical imaging, astronomers have constructed one of the most complete 3D maps of what the young universe looked like just three billion years after the Big Bang.

An international team led Khee-Gan Lee from the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy used extremely faint light from galaxies that are 10.8 billion light years away to backlight primordial hydrogen gas left over from the Big Bang. As starlight from distant (background) galaxies travel towards Earth, the v Continue reading Astronomers Have Mapped Our Adolescent Universe in 3D

Cancer Cells Imaged In True 3D Using Revolutionary Microscope

Whether its a plant, an organ, or just a collection of cells, biological matter can only truly develop when its given the space to do so. Cancer cells are no exception to this, so in order for them to behave more naturally, a team of researchers used a new imaging technique that allows them to grow in true 3D space not just along a flat glass slide.

This recent study, published in the journal Developmental Cell, showcases a new, high Continue reading Cancer Cells Imaged In True 3D Using Revolutionary Microscope

Printer Turns Photos Into 3D Objects So The Blind Can Relive Memories.

Is there a way for those without sight to relive memories captured in a photograph? That was the question Pirate3D asked when they initiated their Touchable Memories experiment. The initiative aims to help the blind physically re-experience visual memories using 3D printers.

The Singapore-based company uses 3D printers in this project to create sculptures from photographs. This achieved a physical object so the blind could physically hold onto their treasured memories.

The following video demonstrates the process and shows that the technology involved isn’t just a tool, but a new way to give people purpose.

Your glasses are lying on a piece of paper. You go to pick them up and—wait a minute! What looks like a three-dimensional object is actually just a flat plane. Due to a careful manipulation of perspective and shadow, as well as some serious drawing chops, you’ve been fooled into thinking a pencil sketch is Continue reading Art Come to Life! 3D Drawings Will Amaze You In The Coolest Ways.
